ABOUT US

"Here is where people,
One frequently finds,
Lower their voices,
And raise their minds."
- Richard Armour
Welcome to Your Library
Folks of all ages use our branch library daily. We are a vibrant community in a large city and our library is at the heart of our neighborhood. Community meetings, afterschool homework, free internet access, children’s story time, classes (photography, chess, writer’s workshops, financial, maker’s spaces – these are only a sample), online databases, and books. We haven’t even gotten to the books and electronic books and special collections. Part of the magic of a branch library is having a community space for our neighborhood with the collections and programming of a large city library system. Our local branch staff strive to bring useful, fun, and interesting collections, programming, and events to Petworth Library and are supported by staff in the D.C. Public Library system.
As we celebrate Petworth Library’s role in our community, we also celebrate your role in keeping our library the thriving, interesting, and beautiful hub of our neighborhood. Thank you for attending programs and events at the library, for using the paper and electronic collections, and for supporting the staff as they welcome us all.
In addition to using Petworth Library, we welcome you to visit our used book sales which raise funds for the library, donate gently used books for our sales, follow us on facebook for updates on library programs, and give us feedback about ways we all can continue to support the mission of our branch library.
