The Friends at the Petworth Library supports the library in a variety of ways, by: raising funds for library programs, services, books and equipment; sponsoring author programs to involve the community in library activities; advocating on behalf of the library to the Mayor, City Council, Congress and the library administration; and supporting the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights. The Friends at the Petworth Library participates in the DC Federation of Friends, a city-wide association of Friends councils.
